40 YEARS IN THE MAKING
As our longtime fans know, Tim Leatherman created the world’s first pliers-based multi-tool after a budget trip to Europe in 1983. Forty years later, millions of people continue to overcome the unexpected with only their ingenuity and a Leatherman tool in hand. To commemorate this milestone, Leatherman has commissioned the Garage team to create its most advanced multi-tool: BATCH #005: 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOOL. We’ve built BATCH #005 on the FREE® technology platform, allowing one-handed opening to all tools and features. The primary blade is made from premium MagnaCut® steel—an industry first for multi-tools. Regarded as the best all-around steel for everyday carry knives, MagnaCut is first-class in terms of durability, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. The first tool that combines FREE® technology with fan-favorite features like spring-action pliers, customizable bit driver, unique Cerakote surfaces, and user-tensioned jaws to round out the latest innovations for the anniversary tool. BATCH #005 represents Tim’s original problem-solver mentality taken to the next level. With its advanced materials and features, we hope this tool inspires people to overcome new challenges they may face and to solve them with confidence and creativity.

"All time best design, fit, finish & materials. Never without it as I build cabin on mountainside at 10k feet elevation. When hanging onto metal roof with one hand, #005 is completely operable with other hand. Wouldn’t trust any other tool (even my previous fav, Surge) in those situations. "This is like a highly upgraded Free P4: better blade, full-size file (plus a diamond file), bit driver, and spring-loaded pliers. It's hard to find fault with this thing! I'm concerned about the Cerakote coating wearing off at some point, but the bronze finish is a beautiful contrast to the white coating."
